One of the most prominent statues at the Navy Memorial is the “Lone Sailor” sculpture, a 7-foot tall sailor in uniform who stands atop a granite pedestal. This statue – sculpted by Stanley Bleifeld – was dedicated in 1987. The granite base is engraved with words such as HONOR, HUMILITY, COURAGE and DEVOTION; words which aptly reflect the proud spirit of those who have given their service to this nation.

The plaza also features the "Granite Sea," a large map of the world carved into the granite surface, which highlights the locations of important naval engagements throughout history.

Visitors can also find the "Field of Stars," a circular area with over 400 stars, each representing a U.S. Navy ship that has been lost in action.

The Navy Memorial also includes the Naval Heritage Center, a museum that provides an in-depth look at the history of the U.S. Navy. The Center features interactive exhibits, artifacts, and a theater that shows a film about the Navy's history.

The Memorial is a beautiful and meaningful tribute to the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the U.S. Navy. It serves as a reminder of the important role the Navy has played in the defense of our country, and it is a must-see destination for anyone interested in American military history.
